We understand some of our patients are eager to find out more about weight management medications. In our area, these medications are only available through a local community weight management service for a small number of people with the highest clinical need.
Our GP practice cannot prescribe weight management medicines to you directly.
Please check this criteria carefully before contacting us to request a a referral. This helps us ensure appointments are available for all our patients’ health needs.
To be considered for a referral for the weight management medications, patients must meet strict national criteria, including a very high BMI and multiple, specific health conditions. You can check the full criteria on the CPICS website at www.cpics.org.uk by searching ‘weight management services’.
If you would be interested in a referral, please contact reception who will request for a referral to be sent to the ‘Healthy You’ service – the provider which has been commissioned locally to manage this service.
Please note that a referral to the weight management service does not automatically mean you will be prescribed medication to help you lose weight, as people with the highest clinical need for these drugs are being prioritised.
